Living with migraine and PCOS
A 24-year-old woman presents with migraine attacks, pressure in her eyes and head most of the time, worse with stress, worse with noise and light. In addition, PCOS. Without knowing more, we could easily think of ascendant Liver Yang. The pulse indicated the following (in short): Yang Qiao pulse – indicates that Yang Qiao is challenged to absorb Yang from the head and that large joints in the body may be affected (often because we do not take the steps in life we know we should).
Harmonize Taiyang and anchor Yang
Furthermore, there was a distinct thin cheesecloth-like sensation on the entire left side when touching the top of the artery – indicating a tense nervous system and that our boundary to our world is tense – in 6-meridian language, this means that Taiyang cannot complete its movement of opening up and out harmoniously, and if this movement does not take place, subsequent descent in the body can be compromised (and then Yang does not come down). This was confirmed by a superficial pulse on the left distal position.
So the treatment consisted of harmonizing Taiyang and anchoring Yang – this was done with a simple herbal recipe that was a clear Yang-strengthening recipe (Gui Zhi Jia Fu Zi Tang). One month on this recipe and the migraines were gone, and her long-absent menstruation due to PCOS had returned. Interestingly, the ovaries' ability to release eggs harmoniously can often be equated with our surface's ability to open up and out harmoniously.
It is possible to learn pulse diagnosis (and also Chinese herbal medicine). See these upcoming events:
