Galileo® training: The effect of whole-body vibration on sprint performance in Korean national bobsled and skeleton athletes

Galileo® training: Effekten af helkropsvibrationer på sprintevnen hos koreanske nationale bobslæde- og skeletonatleter

Abstract of the article:

This study aimed to determine if whole-body vibration has an effect on bobsled athletes' sprint ability to shorten their time. 17 bobsled athletes (men = 11, women = 6) were recruited from the Korean national winter Olympic team.

Participants were randomly assigned to either a sprint immediately following whole-body vibration or a sprint without whole-body vibration protocol during two separate visits over a 3-month period.

To evaluate the effects on sprint ability, 60-m sprint timed tests were conducted. In men, at 45m (p<0.05), significantly faster sprint section records were observed after WBV than non-WBV. In women, at 15m (p<0.05), 30m (p<0.01), 45m (p<0.05), and 60m (p<0.05), significantly faster sprint section records were observed after WBV than non-WBV.

In men, at 30m (p<0.05), 45m (p<0.05), and 50m (p<0.05), significantly faster sprint cumulative records were observed after WBV than non-WBV. In women, at 15m (p<0.05), 30m (p<0.05), 45m (p<0.01), 50m (p<0.01), and 60m (p<0.01), significantly faster sprint records were observed after WBV than non-WBV. This study showed significantly faster results after WBV than non-WBV in male and female bobsled and skeleton athletes.
