Acupuncture Treatment for Cancer Patients by Nigel Ching

This book deals with the acupuncture treatment of cancer patients.

The purpose of the book is to provide acupuncturists with a thorough explanation of Western medical approaches to cancer treatment and how these are understood in a Chinese medical context.

At the same time, the book provides acupuncturists with the necessary Chinese medical understanding of cancer, which is a prerequisite for optimally treating cancer patients with acupuncture. The book's focus is not on how to treat specific cancers with acupuncture, but on how best to support Western medical cancer treatment, and especially on how an acupuncturist can alleviate side effects that arise in connection with conventional cancer treatment, as well as relieve the cancer patient's emotional challenges, and on how the acupuncturist can strengthen the cancer patient to be able to complete conventional cancer treatment.

The book is divided into two main sections. The first section reviews the Western medical understanding of cancer, how cancer is diagnosed, and how it is treated with conventional medicine.

The book further explains these approaches from a Chinese medical perspective and offers suggestions on how acupuncturists can best support Western medical treatment. The second section of the book focuses on the various acupuncture treatment strategies that can be used in the treatment of cancer patients, including the treatment of side effects that have arisen in connection with Western medical cancer treatment, palliative treatments, life-extending treatments, pain relief, etc.

In addition to a thorough review of relevant etiological factors, pathology, and treatment of the various aspects, the book places great emphasis on diet and lifestyle counseling so that the patient is able to best support the Chinese medical treatment.

At the end of the book, there are two appendices that briefly explain Western and Chinese medical terminology.
